Thaw

The thaw continues apace. The melt water dripping from the roof creates a brighter line in the muddy canal.
Naas and surrounds have countless piles of slush beside the footpaths, irressistable to the youngsters.

I work in a small clinic building with a Health Services sign on the wall. Going out to the car just now, I'm accosted by girl of about 10 years.
"Do you work in there?" she demands.
"I do. What is it?
She looks down, from her shoe pulls out a foot ensconced in a sodden sock,
"Do you have anything for cold toes?"
