Saw 4 or 5 shooting stars, but didn't manage to get them in front of the lens. Nice standing out in the dark of Portobello Park just watching the sky while the camera whirred away automatically taking 9 30 second exposures at a time. Had just hopped on the mountain bike to seek out the nearest dark spot. Thought the shooting stars would start to pick up just before midnight when there were three in fairly quick succession in the little patch of clear sky I was focussed on - but not to be, all went quiet.

Might have a look out the back of the house before turning in (we're reasonably well sheltered from immediate light pollution, if not the overall citywide take on it.

Let's dedicate this one to Patrick Moore, who might have been a slightly xenophobic looney, but he'll forever live on in my memory as a hologramatic entity talking about computer games.

Half day tomorrow (w00t!) with lots of work in it (boo!) before lunch with Mel at the Honours (yay!) and a 6ish-am start on Saturday (argh!) to drive north to see me mam (hurrah!). Being a good son for once and shuttling her about for the weekend after a foot op which she's going into hospital for tomorrow - of course I'm planning on taking a bike to go red squirrel hunting on Sunday morning, but that's a given surely?
