Mission Impossible

A week ago, with father in law in hospital and mother in law stuck upstairs at home, it seemed most unlikely that they would be together again, in this world at least.  When his condition stabilised there was a glimmer of hope that he might get home but many obstacles presented themselves.  The palliative care team at the N&N have worked with his daughters to find a way to make the impossible possible.  Hospital bed, a personal carer, regular nursing care, transport, supplies to aid his care at home, all have been sorted.  Today he got his wish to come home for his last days.

But to achieve their greatest wish we needed to bring Una downstairs, so that they could be together.  Another hospital bed, needed downstairs, was the easy part.   It was only at lunchtime that a private firm who could assist with moving her were booked in.  "430pm but the stair lift will have to be removed."   Mission impossible?  It seemed like it for a few minutes.  Una's son Gerry was summoned from work with his van full of tools, I contacted the installers and sought help.  With an open phone line to Sam at Norfolk Stairlifts - he was installing one somewhere else at the same time - Gerry started work.  My role to pass tools and catch bits as they were removed.  Some 'builders language' coloured the air when encountering particularly stubborn fixings but we finally lifted the motorised chair off and carried out the tracking with a few minutes to spare.

Hardly a dry eye in the house when the old couple were finally reunited.

Mission accomplished.

The morning's adventures pruning in the garden seem a lifetime ago tonight.
