Local History

I spent the day around the house today and decided to sort out the bookshelves.  I love history, especially local and social history, and these are some of the books I have collected over the years.  'Out Of One Eye' and 'Scotswood Road' are photographs taken by a wonderful photographer called Jimmy Forsyth who died in 2009 at the age of 95.  He lost an eye in an industrial accident but it certainly didn't seem to affect his ability to take great photos.

The 'Byker' book is by a photographer called Sirka Liisa Konttinen.  She was from Finland but lived in Byker for seven years until her home, along with many other were demolished in the 1970's - the end of an era and the end of a very close knit community.  She became very much part of the community.

These three books managed to capture a world that has now disappeared.
