Dusting off history

Dusted the mantelpiece on my landing today as part of the ongoing spring clean / mega tidy up / decluttering of the cottage.

I dusted this pair of cats which once belonged to a boyfriend’s gran. He didn’t care for them but I loved them. The small black books are a couple of prayer books which belonged to my late nan. They are dated 1830 and the pages very delicate.

I enjoyed reading the page entitled The Collect under the heading The First Day of Lent, commonly known as Ash Wednesday. My favourite bit was “Create and make in us new and contrite hearts.”
