All Spent

A chilly start to the day so long trews were on again, but with blue skies, it didn’t take long to warm up and turn into a rather lovely day.
A stroll over to the South Bank to the Australlian Centre for Contemporary Arts; and there were a couple of superb pieces - Daniel Jenatsch with a satirical recreation of the Sheraton Hotel Incident from the 80s and Matthew Griffin’s Outernet - a hilarious take on fake news and 24/7 news media.
Out and off on the tram to Fitzroy which a great neighbourhood to the north of the centre. Bohemian and hipster with a bit of grittiness. Just what well heeled tourists want some of. Though all we really got was a couple of filled pittas in a little Middle Eastern courtyard.
Back into town to the ACMI to see a bit of film and TV history - and we struck gold - Skippy the Bush Kangaroo! And wowza, a bit of Marclay’s clock which is showing here. Then a meet up at the Transport Bar with Lisa who I worked with in Edinburgh in the 90s. Good to see her again. Blimey, she’s 60 this year, and she was just a young’un. Good to see her and hear all her news and her chat about Australia, her being a native.
And then, to pretty much bring the curtain down on a fabulous four weeks, a really top notch meal at Vue de Monde up on the 55th floor of some tower. Apparently run by one Shannon Bennett, a celeb, the head chef was one Chris Marshall who was from Edinburgh and a jambo! His uncle even played for Hearts. We was treated like royalty, so we was and were plied with special Hearts themed petit fours after a tour of the kitchen accompanied by the Hearts song. And a hugely brilliant meal - even down to crushing your own spices in liquid nitrogen. So we treated them in return to a huge amount of our money. You can’t take it with you, people. Not even back to the UK now...
