Patterns

Sometimes, I must admit, it’s more about
creating a pattern and counting syll-
ables than trying to get something out
of your system. It’s an exercise, sill-

y perhaps, and of little interest
to most people. I think of it as arm
wrestling the writing muscle i.e. wrest-
ling with words. It’s self-indulgent but harm-

less. And sometimes an exercise can lead
you somewhere you weren’t expecting to go.
With luck you might produce something worth read-
ing. (Clearly, in this case, that is not so).

But I’ve now ended up reflecting on
how structures and patterns are a part of
life. Yet so is randomness, division,
hatred. But unity also, and love.
