A surprise visitor

I knew when I looked out through the freezing fog and dimly saw a blackbird skating across the icy patio that today was not a day to be out and about. I wrote my Christmas cards and did a little online shopping, and began to think about what I could possibly blip. Just before 3:30, Pete called me down, and in the fading light (if it was possible for it to fade any more) we watched a bird in a tree at the back of the garden. We were sure it was something we'd never had a visit from before. Definitely some kind of thrush. I took a number of photos with the ISO cranked right up and enhanced the better ones on the computer to reveal - a fieldfare. I hope he'll return and enjoy our hawthorn berries in a better light.
