Victoria Tower, St Peter Port

In 1846 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert paid a surprise visit to Guernsey. It was the first by a reigning monarch and was of great importance to islanders. This Tower was commissioned to commemorate the visit. It cost £2000 and was funded by public subscription.
After very heavy rain this morning, the sun came out and I went for a walk around St Peter Port with my camera. When I first moved to Guernsey in 1985, I worked in town and walked past this monument to my rented house in Gibauderie. Sometimes I would stop off at the Arsenal Chip shop nearby for fish 'n chips which I remember cost 90 pence!
