National ANZAC Centre

Spent the morning in Albany. First stop was the Boatshed Markets. Got a few essential provisions, bread, eggs, veggies, cinnamon roll. Was a fun little place with ‘Merv and Hugh’ providing the music.

From there we checked out of the Airbnb and headed to the National ANZAC Centre. We loved it and could have spent at least another hour or two exploring the area. The Centre first focused on the convoy that took ALL of the first wave of Australian and New Zealand forces by both to fight in the First World War. Most started that journey from the natural harbour in Albany. 33 ships left at the same time, what a sight that must have been. The rest of the Centre continues the First World War story and also the ANZAC in the Second World War which neither of us knew anything about. We also got a guided tour with Dominic to see the heritage buildings in the area. If you are in Albany it’s a fantastic place to visit.

We then had a 2 hour drive to our next Airbnb to Quinninup. We should have probably stayed in Albany because there was so much more to see! But the drive was beautiful and other than some tricky light and the occasional kangaroo bounding across the road we made it safe and sound to the forest.
