Totally Edinburgh

My Uncle Ian in 1944.

Dad in the merchant navy, mum ran Maules restaurant then her own - The Horseshoe - in Rose St; grew up in Greenbank, went to Watsons, served in Egypt/Penang/German (Arnhem?), parachuted into Norway at the liberation, released and went to Heriot Watt to study Architecture.

Became the family bon viveur. Cigars at gatherings, cigarettes always, a jolly trencherman, joke teller, part-owner of a glider at Portmoak.

It was the cigarettes that got him in 1980.

The restaurant is now the Mussel Inn. I suspect the current menu would be judged better by most people.
