Mary At the Mall

We aren’t mall people. So today, while Tom looked for a gift for me, and a necessity for her, I read a newly purchased book of poems, “Devotions”, from Mary Oliver, as the multitude of shoppers filed by.

Her words helped a mall situation:

“And I am thinking: maybe just looking and listening is the real work.

Maybe the world, without us,
is the real poem.”

From “The Book of Time”
