Life of Tiree

Fairy

Fairy has been part of Christmas for as long as I can remember.

We've never gone in for those trendy, organised looking Christmas trees where everything matches. It's always been a festive hotch potch of bits collected over the years, gifts from adopted Swedish grandmas, handmade odds and ends from family members of all ages, old favourites and new additions, the latest being a discovery of 101-year-old Great Grandma's fantastic vintage beads and baubles in the cellar. Ms.Kidston would weep with envy.

Fairy has always been my favourite though. She's seen more different layers of tissue wrap than I've had hot dinners, packed away carefully each year as a priority, no matter how many things are going on. Nothing makes me feel more grown up than the fact that it is now my job to unwrap her and release the Christmas magic. Our delicate, porcelain-faced lady who guards over the tree and watches another generation join in the fun.
