Check up.

We were back in the hospital today for another check up on Bas' hand.
New xrays were made and we had a talk with the surgeon.
Things look good. Bas is able to bend and stretch his index finger again and the wounds on his fingers are healing the way they should. The xray showed that the fractures are healing as well.

To get his middle finger going it's important to remove the pins from it as soon as possible. Waiting for the moment the bones are perfectly healed will cause a stiff finger because of the risk that his tendons will stick (forever), on 'the other hand' removal of the pins too soon will increase the risk of new fractures and a crooked finger.
A difficult dillemma that has to be dealt with.

We talked about the pros and cons and came to the conclusion (actually, the surgeon did and we followed his advice) that next Wednesday the pins will be removed.

He then brought up another dilemma, a desicion for Bas to make:
Will the pins be removed with, or without anesthesia. Both options have pros and cons.
Anesthesia will come with a few very painful injections and pulling them out without will also have some 'unpleasant' moments.
Bas choose not to go for the anesthesia. "Just pull them out quickly please, and then that's it. I'll bite my teeth for a while, it can't be as bad as it was back then on the metro escalator.."
What a brave boy we have!! He keeps amazing me and Annemarie with the way he handles this drama/trauma.

The appointment is scheduled next Wednesday, 11.30 am.
I wish it was next Wednesday 13.00 already....
