The End of the Road

We walked a little bit of the Pennine Way out of Kirk Yetholm this afternoon - a very little way, considering the whole thing is 268 miles long. I don't think I'll be tackling it. It was cold and clear today, we could see the coast.

Kirk Yetholm is the end - or the beginning - of the trail. We didn't see any other walkers today, but outside the pub there's an array of discarded boots and trainers (see extra too). 

Is this people's way of letting the world know that they made it, or has the whole experience been so awful that they've decided never to go hiking again?
