A Netsuke for every day of the week

On Wednesday I had half an eye on an auction of Asian Arts which was going on in Edinburgh. We'd gone to the viewing on Sunday, and the pieces I'd been interested in before still interested me after. Nothing extravagant, but I've wanted some netsuke for absolutely ages.

Basically they are small carved forms (of many things, but as expected the animals are of most interest to me) that were used as 'toggles'. The set of seven wooden netsuke were just 20th century, so not particularly valuable, but there were a few in the set that had caught my eye. The picture above testament to the fact I won the lot, and Mel collected it for me today.

They're so nice the way they're carved all the way round, so this little quail has feet tucked away underneath. I fear a collection may have started...
