This is one of the rather few originally conserved antique houses in Magdeburg. Because the city was destroyed by 95% in WWII, the town mostly consists of post-war buildings. As I read, it must have been a town of mostly baroque & early Industrial Revolution buildings before that catastrophy.

The tragedy is, that this was the 3rd time the town has suffered big damages: first time in the middle ages (Thirty Years' War), second time during the Napoleonic Wars, and then facism and its WWII.
