The goldfinch...

... was more than willing to pose for a portrait, but only if perched on the bird-feeder. In the end I agreed just for the sake of a colourful blip.

The nuthatch (see extra) was more co-operative and popped into more natural surroundings.

Both were taken from the bird hide at the RHS gardens. I was so engrossed that, when I decided to leave, I found so many people had crept into the hide, it was 'standing room only'.

The whole of the gardens seemed to be much busier than a usual weekday morning, with pensioners in abundance.

It was only as I left that I heard someone on the desk mention it was a free entry day. Clearly half of Yorkshire had been attracted by the offer!
