Help!

I thought I was reasonably ok with IT (well I can get by on the bits I generally need), but got called to the inlaws yesterday as they couldn't get ITunes to work. Turns out their laptop isn't recognising the CD/DVD drive - which is kind of essential!

Tried using Microsoft help and support and did the updates it recommended, but it didn't make any difference. The next instruction was to go to the BIOS screen but I have no idea what that means or should look like. Help - any ideas?????
