Upper Byron Place

Wide Angled Wednesday: Dereliction and Dereliction of Duty (?)

This building use to be a hospital and is now, after many years of neglect, being demolished to make way for even more student housing. Many (myself now included) have been critical of the large numbers of properties being turned into student accommodation in Bristol. I realise that students bring money into the city, but the people who benefit (students do not pay local taxes) are not the council tax paying members of the city, but the University and the landlords.

I was also surprised to see that the Banksy has been removed. I'm hoping that it was taken by the council for safe keeping, but it has to be said that our council does not have a good reputation at  protecting works of significance.
