View to Fotheringhay
Not long ago these fields were flooded when the River Nene burst its banks. Today there was still a fairly soggy scene down on the flood plain near my village but the river has receded and just a stream remains. Fotheringhay is the place where Mary Queen of Scots met her end in February 1587. I often think that she must have gazed down on the River Nene all those years ago from the battlements of the castle by the river.
