Travellers from all over the UK arrive at Appleby every June for the Horse Fair...

Appleby used to be the County Town of Westmorland before the new county of Cumbria was formed in 1974 (from  Cumberland, Westmorland, bits of Lancashire and a small part of Yorkshire )

Horses are washed in the river Eden as you can see in the photo...

It's well worth going to see the Appleby Horse Fair, although some say a few of the horses are treated badly.
