Rowallane

The Ards Man and I spent this afternoon at Rowallane, a National Trust property and garden near Saintfield in County Down.

It was very blustery! In fact we had sun, high winds and rain at different times as we ambled around the demesne. We had a map, but it seemed to bear no similarity whatsoever to the environs as we walked around the different areas. At one point we took shelter in a small building with a conveniently located bench, where the rain pelted down as we both sat in our sunglasses, as the sun was shining so brightly in our eyes! Go figure.

The gardens at Rowallane are famous for their rhododendrons, a few of which were flowering today; I think the main show will be in a month or two. There were lots of beautiful magnolia trees in blossom and some were huge, but my favourite flowering plants today were the hellebores. I’ve seen quite a few in other blips recently, but had to show these ones today as they were so lovely! If you look closely you can see some greenfly enjoying this little flower.

Home now for a bit of a relax before getting stuck in to some ironing. The Precious (daughter) will be home next weekend with the little Gusling (my granddaughter) in tow and I can’t wait to see them! Now in the process of prepping their rooms :)
