MonoMonday - Object

This hideous object is hidden away in the cocktail cabinet. I assume it is some sort of Toby Jug. I believe it belonged to my husband’s grandmother. I haven’t been able to find any information about it, and there are no maker’s markings except for a type of white seal on the side with what looks like Japanese writing. I find it rather creepy myself, but if anyone knows what it is....??!!
