First Day Home

It was so good to wake up in our own bed!  Travelling is great but getting home is also wonderful, especially when it includes reuniting with Jan!
Another facet of getting home is eating our own food. Chewy sourdough bread, muesli not supercharged with sugar, kefir, salad constructed from raw vegetables. We ate some excellent food in Italy but vegetables were rarely seen except as chips.
We were still feeling tired and not many photos were taken but this stamp arrived today, attached to a parcel (see Jan's blip), and caught my eye.  I've always considered stamps a form of public art and this one is a good example of why I think that.
It's a white-tailed eagle (Haliaeetus albicilla) (Havsörn in Swedish) and has the largest wingspan of any eagle. So if you meet an eagle with a 2.45 meter (8 ft) wingspan it's probably one of these! I once saw one of these eagles off the Norwegian coast. It was flying above the fjord and being mobbed by gulls, diving on it from behind and above. It suddenly rolled over on its back and grabbed a gull in one foot, then flew purposefully away, presumably to its nest to feed it's young with the bullying gull!
