summit

Sarah and I had a day out today, walking up the highest of the Solway Hills - Cairnsmore of Fleet. I've only climbed this hill once before and on that occasion the weather was terrible - rain and near-zero visibility. This time we had Spring sunshine, blue skies, and I heard the first chiffchaff of the year in the woods at the start of our walk (and skylarks all the way up).

Here you can see Sarah near the summit, leaning against the memorial to 23 airmen who died in 8 separate plane crashes nearby. Seven of these were between 1940 and 1944; the eighth and most recent, a Phantom jet,  was in 1979.

Had a lovely surprise this evening when we were eating our tea and Joe and Kim came by. We had a good chat and then watched an old episode of Alan Partridge :-)
