Pasqueflower - Pulsatilla vulgaris

Photographed this on the south facing side of the Devils Dyke near Newmarket and not without some personal risk... the slope is very steep and covered with thorny plants. Beautiful flowers...

"...a fair claim to being the most dramatically and exotically beautiful of all English plants." - Geoffrey Grigson, "The Englishman's Flora"
