Go fly a kite!

It's springtime and that can only mean one thing: Washington D.C.'s Cherry Blossoms festival, which kicked off today with the traditional kite festival on the Mall and will last for the next two weeks. It also happened to be a really nice weather day so there were people aplenty (see extra for a wider view).

Lots of kites too: some soaring, some crawling on the ground, others caught in trees or tangled with each other. You had to keep your eye on the sky for falling kites and on the ground at the same time to sidestep the strings. Kids were looking on in wonder or crying in frustration: parenting was at a premium today ;)

DC's famous blossoms will reach peak in the next day or two and there were already massive traffic jams arounds the area (never understood why people don't just park their car and walk...)
