Beds for Onions.

Plastic mulch is something that I struggle with as an organic grower. There are many other farms that use plastic for every crop that they grow but it seems like a lot of plastic waste.

We normally do not use plastic for growing our vegetables, but I have found with onions the plastic really does make a difference. It not only helps with weed control but also warms up the soil to help the onions get a better start.

Now that the beds are made, next step is to spread straw in each of the aisles so that weed pressure is reduced there as well. The straw is normally my go to weed control method as it adds organic matter to the field along with providing weed control; it is just very labor intensive and expensive.
