I now have clean carpets at a very reasonable price, but I'd happily have paid twice as much not to listen to Mr Carpet Cleaner's opinions about life, the universe and Brexit.

There was a (not uncommon) collision at the traffic lights opposite the house yesterday which sadly turns out to have been fatal, which I suspected at the time. I think, but don't know, that the driver - a man of B's age - was taken ill or died at the wheel and no-one else was involved. It's very sad.
