Wightwick Manor

We met our friends Liz and Genny at the National Trust property, Wightwick Manor and Gardens in Wolverhampton.  The Arts and Crafts designed house was owned by the Mander family, famous for their local paint and varnish manufacturing plant, from 1887 to 1988.

The house is decorated with William Morris wallpapers and fabrics and holds a remarkable collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings by Rossetti, Burne-Jones and their followers.

There is an good cafe in the old stables block and a separate art gallery.  Well worth a visit.

The extra is a moorhen nest, I think, complete with eggs, we spotted at the edge of the lake in the gardens.
