Messing about on the river....

..... well canal actually. I had to travel to Newbury today for a work conference. It meant an early start, the ferry was at 6:30 am. The conference ended at 2pm and even if I had driven straight back I wouldn't have managed to get back before the office closed, so I planned a hour or so's relaxation. I discovered a footpath near to Newbury Racecourse (where the conference was), which was actually a canal towpath. It was lovely, really peaceful, and with lots of birds. I saw Great Crested Grebes, Chiffchaff, Cetti's Warbler, little gull, Cormorant and Blackcap. On the drive up a Red Kite flew above the road. Fantastic. A great mix of work and relaxation.
