Was It Really So Long Ago

101/365: Bircham Windmill

This fine example faced the fate of so many others, after it milled it's final sack of flour in the 1930's and gradually became derelict. In 1979, a new cap was added by the current owner and the sails replaced a couple of years later. As such, it is a bit of a gem in that it remains one of the only working mills in the country that is open to the public.

Bircham Windmill has a calendar with a number of events taking place over the season and the adjoining bakery offers bread making courses for all ages, which our youngsters took full advantage of whilst there.

Meanwhile, I took advantage of a cream tea and pondered how many miles on the bike that'll take to burn off when back at home tomorrow! Alternatively the fearless amongst us climbed to the top of the tower and took in the views outside the top cap next to the fantail (see extras).
