He wasn't called 'Old William'.
He was a little deaf.
He didn't have a beard,
but he did have a moustache.
And he loved The Goodies' silly song, A man's best friend is his duck (with its spoof of the old Kleenex ad -- a duck is "strong even when wet"!)

Today would have been my father's 101st birthday. There are people of his vintage still alive in the world today, which makes him seem closer. (How daft is that?) This ornament sat on my parents' mantlepiece.
