Sue and I spent the afternoon making gin at Adnams in Bury St. Edmunds (J kindly drove us there and back). It was a lot of fun and really interesting. We tasted six Adnams gins, three of their vodkas, had a full-size G&T (I chose the Quince gin which I liked so much I bought a bottle afterwards), the 80% proof which came off during the distilling, finishing off with Adnams sloe gin. We went home with our own bottle of gin and a goody bag. I chose the following botanicals for my gin - juniper, orris root, lemongrass, lemon peel, orange peel, hibiscus flower and cassia bark. I named it Desperate Measures and have to wait two weeks before drinking it. I learnt that gin without juniper in it is vodka; we used a bottle of Long Shore Vodka as the base for our gins.
