Standing to Attention

Even on a short local walk you can encounter wildlife. And that was the case today on our walk around the lake at Trentham Gardens.

We saw several Great Crested Grebes. One pair were bonding but never went for the full weed dance. One was sitting on a nest, and another was swimming around with a youngster on it's back.

The herons are gathering on the heronry on the main island. We also had either swallows or house martins swooping over the lake. Without our binoculars we couldn't tell.

There's one female mallard with a family of 8 ducklings. They seem so insignificant against the size of the lake. And our resident black swan pair have nested near the weir, so we're waiting patiently to see their new arrivals.
