Takayama Festival

We left Kyoto early to catch the festival before going further into the Alps by bus. Lots of the roads in Takayama were closed with pop up stalls selling food and sake. This picture is at the start of the parade as they were coming down from Hie Shrine with dancing dragons, flutes, drums and mobile shrines in tow. I think the big floats did come out today due to the rain but were all on show around town in their purpose built homes.
