Aftermath…..

………………….......……of Fire

A visit to Eves Valley shows life after the Pigeon Valley wildfire which burnt for days earlier this year. Hotspots still remain 2 months after the fire started on 5th February in Pigeon Valley, Wakefield, NZ.

Forestry crews are racing to salvage trees from blackened forests before borer bugs infest the wood.

Blocks of trees over the age of 20 years are still saleable, but of course many blocks are immature. Salvaging is the first priority followed by clearing the land and replanting it with pine seedlings.

The lower photo shows a farmer busy continuing to replace fences. What you can’t see is the blackened earth along fence lines and nearby cattle yards. A nearby house, sooooo close to the fire, had unbelievably been saved.

Notre Dame Cathedral - this morning we woke to the news that the world famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris was on fire.

Thank you for the visits, comment, stars and hearts for yesterday’s ‘side lighting’ blip. It was nature at work again - this time providing the magical strip of light. My contribution to the blip was to add dark surrounds creating a landscape orientation.
