Citadella

Firemaster

Who doesn't love a ghost sign? I just noticed this on the way to the swimming pool on Junction Place. It's attached to a building still bearing the title "Fire Engine House" and there's a lovely elaborate iron hanging lampholder outside (extra photo). Seems to be flats now and a google search shows it dates from 1877 but was a casualty of the merger of Leith and Edinburgh. Makes me think about autonomy, independence and infrastructure.  Junction Place used to be called Fire Brigade Street. Thirty-two lengths.
