Bridge 132

This is one of the most impressive bridges that I have photographed on the Shropshire Union Canal although it is impossible to appreciate the structure itself which is largely hidden by trees and undergrowth.

The sandstone viaduct carries the Chester to Birkenhead railway across the canal. It was built in 1839 with the bricks coming from Stoke or Staffordshire. It was difficult to see how many arches there were but I thought that there must have been around ten although when I checked one source said there were five arcades. Im sure there were more than that but perhaps they only count full arches.
