Ashy Mining Bee.

Oops, I've upset a few mining bees whilst doing some lawn restoration. The lawn in question has been infested with chafer grubs which eat the roots of the grass, a big enough problem but they, in turn, are food to magpies, rooks, badgers and foxes who dig to get to them meaning the lawn ends up looking like a ploughed field.

Having used my scarifier to break up the surface and the loose bits of turf then raked up all the debris I saw lots of bees flying around looking for their burrow entrances. The soil here on the river Test floodplain is very sandy so they must find it easy to burrow into.

With luck and a bit of rain, things should be starting to look green on my next visit.
