Fair in Den Haag

The other day when I returned from the bulbfields I noticed the fair on centre Den Haag's Malieveld; the 2 hectares of grassland where protesters gather, fairs are held and circusses in old times too. I'd imagined I'd get inspired there for some swinging pix, but I didn't and found it hard to make some.... weird, I'd not expected such a dip.

Now the city's first fair of the year landed here again and it's because next week we celebrate nationally Kingsday on April 27th, when King Willem has his anniversary.

Prior to Kingsday on April 27th we had Queensday on April 30th for decades as it's the date that his grandmama Queen Juliana had her anniversary. She abdicated the crown on on her anniversary before her daughter was crowned Queen Beatrix on the same date of April 30th (in 1980). By accepting the crown on April 30th, she continued to hold on to this date as festive Queensday; weatherwise April here is fine for the outdoor partying and we citizens didn't have to get acccustomed to a new feastdate.
Queen Beatrix abdicated the crown on April 30th of 2013 and her son was crowned King Willem on that same day.
Thus his mother gave him the choice to hold on to this date of April 30th to become his Kingsday, but like his grandmama he chose his anniversary date to be his Kingsday and thus April 27th is the date for national festivities since 2014.
