Remembrances

...of the reconstitution of the Duchy of Brunswick in 1813 (after the Napoleonic wars), celebrated by planting this oak tree in 1913. The plaque is decorated with the Guelphic white horse on a red ground which nowadays serves as the modern state of Niedersachsen’s (Lower Saxony) state coat of arms. In the background on the very left my old school (now Campe-Gymnasium) is depicted, the right half shows a side entrance, still in its 1896 shape. Little seems to have changed since I left in the late 70s. - After a 4 1/2 hours drive on busy roads, this is the first day of our current visit to our parents in Holzminden on Weser.
