Holy Island

A rather memorable day not always for the right reasons. As the forecast was excellent and it was Good Friday, Mr P and I decided to drive to Beal and then walk the last 3 miles of the St Cuthbert’s Way to Holy Island. This entailed crossing the sands (wading through the water) which was spectacular. We did feel rather guilty as most of the people that we were walking with were pilgrims who had been walking for a week. All fine until mid afternoon when Northumbria police called to say that our car was in danger of being submerged as we had left it too close to the causeway! Not much we could do until the causeway was passable again in the evening. Luckily we seem to have got away with it despite an exhaust pipe full of water!
