Juvenile Kawau paka using the wind

We avoided the worst of the traffic by driving north this morning rather than yesterday. Even so there was a queue before the tunnel at the end of the motorway. Thereafter it was pretty much stop start most of the way to Warkworth. 

After lunch I took the Pentax with the 55-300 mm lens. From a distance my eyes thought this was a Kawau tui (Little black shag). However, the yellow beak reveals it to be a juvenile Little pied shag (Kawau paka). They are the most common shag around this area, but often the Kawau tui do hang out with them
