An egg for Easter

The first day of the weeke, commeth Mary Magdalene earely when it was yet darke, vnto the Sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the Sepulchre.
John 20:1 (King James Bible of 1611)

The egg is an ancient pagan symbol of the rebirth of the Earth in celebration of the arrival of spring. Later, the early Christians adopted it as a symbol of the stone used to seal the tomb of Jesus and of his resurrection.

This goose egg was painted in Bali by a young artist of exceptional skill and with the steadiest set of hands that I have ever seen. He painted evocative Balinese scenes with the smallest of brushes, most consisting of little more than a single hair.
