The dropped stitch

Speedwell

The grass needs to be cut but I really don't want to lose these lovely little blue, bright flowers along by the wall and at the grass edges. Some careful mower maneuvering required!

Instead of getting on with that I have spent the last hour reading about the many explanations for the plant's name!
I like the idea that 'speed you well' comes from its habit of growing on roadsides and verges. Travellers in years gone by appreciated its bright flowers along their way.

I also found out that in Ireland it was sewn into clothes as a charm to protect against accidents.
