Two's Company

Wetland Birds Survey today. It was surprisingly cold to start with and although I had enough layers, I wished I'd had gloves! We were out just after dawn, so it was nice and quiet to start with, then the rowers, joggers and dog walkers appeared in some numbers.
There were lots of songbirds, so it was quite hard to concentrate on the water, but the star of the show in that department was Common Sandpipers (extras) hopefully back to breed here again as they did last year. We often see at least one Great Crested Grebe but today was the first time in a while we'd seen them together, snoozing in the willows.
The other new sighting for the year was couple of Blackcaps.
