Birch Sawfly

This ferocious looking creature is a Birch Sawfly (Cimbes femoratus), identified by a pale yellow oval spot on the top of its abdomen. Its also big - the biggest sawfly in Britan - at about 2.5cm long. Completely harmless, unless you are a birch tree.
