twinned with trumpton

By MrFT

An early start; the phone pinged at 0345 and up I got; onto the bike to fetch the car at 4.
Back home; loaded and off to collect Baz and Logan; then into town to fetch Her (having decided to abandon the wayward one to her own devices rather than sit around all day at her beck and call)
And north we didst go. Up the A9; off at Dalwhinnie and across the Laggan road to Spean Bridge; to Invergarry and up up up to Glen Sheil.

Just shy of the Cluanie Inn, we pulled over and pulled on boots.
A bright fresh morning; hazy; cool easterly breeze but the sun rising into the morning sky as we hit the heather at 0900.

A Chralaig; a steep unrelenting climb for the first hour and as we popped out onto the ridge, it eased into steps and so we wound our way up to claim my 205th / Baz 176th / Her 35th and Logan's 1st.

And onwards to Mullach Fraoch Choire; a snaking ridge with a couple of pinnacles meandered off between the summits; a joy to walk as the high level walk with views all around twisted and turned, rose and fell.

3 hours odd into the day we hit the summit; grabbed a sandwich out of the wind, applied more sunscreen and descended back half way to A Chralaig and then exited to the glen to the west and the relative ease of the track that runs from Loch Cluanie to the upper reaches of Glen Affric.

Plenty wildlife; a red squirrel at Pitlochry; 70+ red deer casually grazing (much to the chagrin of Logan), frogs, tadpoles... and back at the car just after 3.

And so a tried but happy band headed back; choc ices at Pitlochry, a near miss on the A84 (car in a ditch about 8 in front of us) and finally home at 9 having dropped everyone else. Bath, tea and I then keeled over and slept. 76 left to do. Not a bad Bank Holiday Monday; not too pink.

Extra of Baz coming off A Chralaig heading for Mullcah Fraoch Choire
